The instructions using the Pucker Tool are counterproductive. The Pucker Tool adds anchors just outside the brush size and moves anchors inside to the centre. This puts a bit of bend in the lines because the anchors at the middle get moved to the centre of the tool. Using progressively smaller Tool sizes will add successive rings of nodes at which the lines bend. Contrarily, using a larger diameter will move previously set anchors to the centre, re-straightening the lines.

You repeat in these tutorials that the artwork is "100% vector." That is not 100% true. The art is vector BASED, but many of the techniques are raster effects: gaussian blur, drop shadows, even the transparency.You should have clued into this technicality while explaining Make New Document > Advanced/ Raster Effects... Pick a value.Truly vector art would limit all gradients to the (old fashioned) Blend command.
